Jonathan Blum returns to CMS as Principal Deputy Administrator. Jon recently held the position of Vice President at Health Management Associates. Before that he was Executive Vice President, Medical Affairs for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. Prior to his work at CareFirst, Jon served on the senior leadership team at CMS from 2009 to 2014. As Director of the Center for Medicare and Principal Deputy Administrator during that time, he led CMS’s payment and delivery reform strategies and oversaw the Medicare program’s policy and management. Jon has recently served on several nonprofit boards and health care policy advisory committees, including Mary's Center (a DC- and Maryland-based Federally Qualified Health Center), the Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County, and the Medicare Rights Center. He was a critical member of the Biden-Harris Administration transition team for CMS.

Jon earned a Master in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.
